Demo Video #3
Subject
Tabuh Telu Tabanan
Description
In this clip Made Sukanda performs the contrasting melody part, referred to as the sangsih. The polos and Sangsih melodies differ in two important ways. First, these two contrasting melodies form an interlocking rhythm structure. The Polos melody occurs on the beat, with the click of a metronome, while the sangsih melody occurs on the offbeat, in-between the clicks of a metronome. The second contrasting difference is note selection. The sangsih part creates a second melodic layer. Some Sangsih notes sound higher than the polos while some are the same. Refer to the notated examples on this website for further clarification.
