Douglas Myers
Douglas ‘Pak Doug’ Myers is an Australian ethnomusicologist and director of Yayasan Polosenni (Foundation for the Pure Arts), located in Banjar, (village council) Teges Kangian, Peliatan. Mr. Myers served as the broker in securing Miami’s gamelan collection in 2002. He also arranged for Albin’s music instruction and tutoring with two recognized musical artists, I Wayan Gandra and his son I Made Sukanda.
The aim of Mr. Myer’s school/foundation is to preserve what is essentially the Indonesian artistic tradition through music and dance. The foundation’s primary performing ensemble is Sekehe Dharma Purwa Jati. This ensemble provided many of the professional recordings for this archive project. The ensemble has been widely recorded and performs on a variety of different gamelan instruments throughout the island of Bali.
Mr. Myer’s has also produced several significant recordings documenting the various types of gamelan instruments along with a variety of traditional and contemporary repertoire. The following recordings produced by Mr. Myers are available through the Amos Music Library:
